Today we are living in an era that surrounded by Graphic Design, from our bedroom to office room. The label of our clothing, Beautiful Patterns on our mugs, monogram on our plats, Symbols on traffic, devices, logos/Corporate Identity of our business/Office etc.
Actually we are psychologically dependent on graphic design. For example, we are much pleasure to having a product/service with good packaging/ good presentation rather than same quality raw packaging/poor presentation. Sometimes we choose product by brand which is depended on graphic design.
So what is Graphic Design Actually is?
There are many kinds of definition out there about “Graphic Design” all definitions are made with different perceptions.
In the 1700s, graphic design and advertising techniques were used in newspaper ads, albeit in an exceedingly very rudimentary fashion. And over the 18th and 19th century, these techniques
were developed not only in newspapers, however trading cards, public notices, and ads.
But the term “Graphic Design” was first used or invented by an American Illustrator, William Addison Dwiggins (19 June 1880 – 25 December 1956) in 1922 to describe his various activities in printed communications (e.g. Calligraphy, Typography, Lettering, Illustration, Book Design etc.) The term “Graphic Design” didn’t reach extensive usage until after the Second World War
The word “Graphic Design” derived from two different words. “Graphic” and “Design”. Graphic is comes from Graph/line/line art/diagram. And Design means Plan/blueprint/intension/purpose. So, According to word, intrinsically we can say “Graphic design is diagram/line that fulfill our purpose/intension”
